Dyeing Artificial Flowers for my Projects

Dyeing Artificial Flowers for my Projects

Hello, everyone! My name is Heather, and I am the founder and owner of "Creating With Love & Grace." I’m excited to share my very first blog post with you. While you can catch me during my Facebook Live sessions, I often find myself on a tight schedule. That’s why I wanted to create this space to share thoughts and ideas that frequently go unnoticed.

Today, I want to talk about my recent discovery of dyeing artificial flowers for my crafts. While searching the vastness of the internet for craft ideas, I came across "Luv Sola Flowers" (www.luvsolaflowers.com). Luv Sola Flowers is a small family business based in Southern California that sells eco-friendly, handmade sola wood flowers for weddings, home décor, and DIY crafters.

After seeing these beautiful flowers, I couldn’t resist and decided to purchase a few packs. When my order arrived, I was thrilled and not disappointed at all. The assortment I chose was perfect for the crafts I had envisioned.

Just take a moment to appreciate the breathtaking beauty of these delicate little flowers. Each petal is adorned with intricate details that seem almost too perfect to be real. I’m genuinely in awe of the fine textures and earthy colors that make these blossoms so captivating. I apologize if my photography skills fall short; I’m certain my pictures fail to capture the full essence and charm of these flowers. Nevertheless, I couldn’t resist sharing their beauty with you!

I've decided to use these little flowers in one of my crafts. With Easter approaching, I wanted to create something that reflects the holiday. I thought about Christ's cross, white doves, Easter eggs, and bunnies. My mind is always racing with ideas when it comes to crafting, but one idea stood out. While I like the concept of bunnies, I realized that many people are using them right now. I wanted to do something a bit more unique, so I thought, what do bunnies love the most? That's right: carrots! But not just one carrot; I decided to include at least three.

Speaking of bunnies, here is a picture of my beautiful little "Hashbrown." She has been a part of our family for over eight years. She adores carrots and absolutely loves bananas.

Let me give you a quick rundown of how I dyed these flowers for my current craft project. Please note that my method isn’t the only way to do this; there are many crafters with different processes and techniques. This is my blog, so I’m sharing how I approached it.

Here’s what I did when dyeing sola wood flowers:

I used chalk paint for this process. While acrylic paint would probably yield better results for dyeing these types of flowers, I was aiming for a specific look. I mixed chalk paint with water in a stainless steel bowl until I achieved the color I desired. It’s important to make sure the solution can cover all the flowers you’re dyeing. I recommend dyeing them in small batches. Additionally, it might be a good idea to test one or two flowers first and let them dry to see if the effect meets your expectations. In this case, I wanted an orange color, so I used Debi's Design Diary DIY paint in "Summer Crush," which I absolutely love.

To dye the flowers, I carefully dipped them into the solution using a set of large plastic tweezers designed for crafting. This helps ensure even coverage. You can also add sparkles or metallic acrylic paints for a unique effect, but I didn't choose to do that this time.

After letting the flowers sit in the solution for a few hours, I removed them and placed them in a plastic basket. The basket should have holes to allow the flowers to dry properly. To speed up the drying process, I positioned the basket near my dehumidifier. Alternatively, you can dry the flowers on wax paper or in any dry location in your home.
